Northern Arizona University School of Music presents Fall Opera at Ashurst Hall. The operas being performed are La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice) by French composer Francis Poulenc and text by Jean Cocteau; A Hand of Bridge by Samuel Barber; Hin Und Zuruck (There and Back) by Paul Hindemith; and The Telephone by Gian-Carlo Menotti.

The evening starts with a drama, La Voix Humaine, in which a woman has a very intense phone conversation with her ex-lover. The opera is sung in French with English supertitles and is set in the 1950's.

The second opera, A Hand of Bridge is an American comedy set in the 1960's about two jaded couples who meet for their weekly bridge game.

Hin Und Zuruck (There and Back) is an absurdist German opera performed in German with English supertitles, set in the 1950's. In this unusual format, a couple enters into a deadly fight over an adulterous affair, only to have their actions illogically replayed backwards until they end up in the same place they started.

The Telephone is a comedy set in 2000 in which a lover's attempts to propose to his girlfriend are foiled by the incessant ring of the telephone.

Eighteen NAU opera Vocal Performance majors present the productions. Leann Conley and Sandra Flores alternate in La Voix Humaine. A Hand of Bridge features Noelle Francis alternating with Laura Ethington, Samantha Gorham with Rehanna Thelwell, Jeff Strand and Quentin Lee. Hin Und Zuruck features Andrew Surrena, Kristen Turner alternating with Austen Eames, Sammy Gorham, Joseph Herman, Scott Balantine, Rehanna Thelwell and Ryan McNiff. Erin Entringer and Daniel Kwast will star in The Telephone.

Additional Information: There will be a pre-performance lecture before each presentation at 6:45pm on October 30 and 1:15pm on October 31.
